About the Election
The election is taking place May 4, 2027.
Three seats are up for election on the Highlands Ranch Water board of directors.
Highlands Ranch Water is a special district organized under Title 32, Article 1 of the Colorado Revised Statues. Special districts are a form of local government created to provide specialized public services and infrastructure. All authority for governing the district lies in the board of directors.
The board of directors is a five-member elected board representing residents within the Highlands Ranch Water district boundaries, which includes Solstice, but not Northern Douglas County. The board of directors have overall fiduciary responsibility for the operation of the district. All powers, privileges and duties vested in, or imposed upon, the district bylaws shall be exercised and performed by and through the board of directors
The Highlands Ranch Water board is comprised of five elected board members. Board members serve staggered four-year terms.
Who can vote?
You can vote in the Highlands Ranch Water election if you are registered to vote in the State of Colorado and reside within the district, which includes Highlands Ranch and Solstice, or if you own, or are the spouse or civil union partner of a person who owns taxable real or personal property within the district.
Yes, if you rent property in the district and are registered to vote in Colorado, you can vote in the Highlands Ranch Water election.
How to Vote
The polling place has moved to a new location for our May 4, 2027 election. The polling place is located at the Highlands Ranch Senior Center, 200 E. Highlands Ranch Parkway, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126.
No. If you want to vote by mail, you will need to request an absentee ballot. Read the following questions below to learn how to do so.
No. You have to request an absentee ballot separately for the Highlands Ranch Water election.
To receive a ballot in the mail you need to complete the Application for Absentee Ballot form. The form is available on our website, or you can pick it up at our main office located at 62 Plaza Drive, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129.
To find out if you are on the Highlands Ranch Water permanent absentee voter list, which means you are already signed up to receive a ballot in the mail, email elections@hrwater.org.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2027.
Candidates
Anyone who is a registered voter and who lives or owns property in the Highlands Ranch Water service area can serve on our board of directors.
The candidate list will be available in the first week of March. Eligible electors may submit a self-nomination form from Jan. 1 through the close of business on Feb. 26, 2027.
Highlands Ranch Water and Highlands Ranch Metro District Elections
Yes, Highlands Ranch Water and the Highlands Ranch Metro District are each holding elections on May 4.
You will have separate ballots for each election.
Yes. We encourage everyone to vote in both elections except for Solstice residents. Solstice is served by Highlands Ranch Water, and residents are encouraged to vote in the Highlands Ranch Water election. Solstice residents are not allowed to vote in the Highlands Ranch Metro District election.
Sharing a polling place makes voting more convenient for eligible voters and allows both districts to coordinate election-day resources.

Election Day and Results
The polling place has moved to a new location for our May 4, 2027 election. The polling place is located at the Highlands Ranch Senior Center, 200 E. Highlands Ranch Parkway, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126.
The polling place is open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. on May 4, 2027
You do not need to bring your identification. When you arrive to vote you will be required to complete a self-affirmation confirming your eligibility to vote in the Highlands Ranch Water election.
Election results will be posted at the polling place, on the Highlands Ranch Water website, and shared on the district’s social media channels – Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Instagram and Nextdoor. The goal is to post preliminary election results the evening of the election.
