Ever wonder what it takes to turn water from our local sources into the safe, reliable drinking water that comes from your tap?

Highlands Ranch Water is inviting the community to find out during a public open house at the Joseph B. Blake Water Treatment Plant from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21. The plant is located at 2500 Plaza Drive in Highlands Ranch. No RSVP is required.

The open house will give customers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the people, processes and infrastructure involved in treating and delivering drinking water to the Highlands Ranch community every day.

Visitors will have an opportunity to learn how water moves through the treatment process, meet Highlands Ranch Water staff and see firsthand the equipment and facilities that help ensure high-quality drinking water reaches customers’ taps.

The event will also provide an opportunity for customers to see their water rates at work. Revenue collected through water rates supports the operation and maintenance of the community’s water system and helps fund investments needed to maintain and improve critical infrastructure.

Several improvements are currently underway at the Joseph B. Blake Water Treatment Plant to update the facility and strengthen its ability to provide reliable drinking water now and into the future. Open house visitors will have an opportunity to learn more about the project and why continued investment in the water system is important.

“Most people turn on the faucet without having to think about everything that happens before the water reaches their home,” said General Manager Sam Calkins. “This open house is an opportunity to see that work firsthand, meet some of the people who make it happen and better understand how investments in our infrastructure support a safe and reliable water supply.”

The open house will take place outside. Comfortable walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Because the water treatment plant is an active facility, accessibility may be limited in some areas.
