Seeing water flowing down storm drains? Here's why

You may have seen water flowing down storm drains or through a gulch in the open space recently. We are doing this on purpose to help us determine the overall health of our groundwater supply.

Groundwater is a nonrenewable resource and although Highlands Ranch relies primarily on surface water, groundwater is an important part of our water supply that can help us deliver water to your home when water is scarce.

The groundwater study requires us to run our groundwater wells to help us monitor the aquifer level. You may see water running down drains at different locations across Highlands Ranch over the next several weeks. The study will be complete before winter arrives.
