Smart Irrigation Month is a public awareness campaign to promote efficient water use. Focused on July, traditionally the month of peak demand for outdoor water use, the campaign highlights simple practices and innovative technologies to help customers irrigate their landscape more efficiently while helping protect our community’s water supply.

Property owners and managers typically overwater, unintentionally wasting money and water every time you take out your hose or turn on your sprinkler. Highlands Ranch Water can help.

  • Retrofit your existing irrigation system with a rain sensor that prevents watering in rainy weather.
  • Upgrade to a smart controller and take the guesswork out of watering your landscape. Easily set it to water on your designated 2-day watering schedule during drought.
  • Swap out your less efficient, traditional fixed spray sprinkler heads with more efficient rotary nozzles.
  • Install drip irrigation – the most effective and water efficient method for watering perennials, shrubs and trees.
  • Sign up for a Slow the Flow irrigation audit to make sure water is used efficiently in your landscape.

To further support smart irrigation practices, Highlands Ranch Water recently increased funding for its rebate and incentive programs. Visit the rebates and incentives page on Highlands Ranch Water’s website at  to learn more.

Customers who are interested in the district’s turf replacement rebate are encouraged to apply now to secure funding and begin your project this fall. Applications must be submitted and approved before a project can begin.

Smart Irrigation Month is an initiative of the Irrigation Association, a nonprofit industry organization dedicated to promoting efficient irrigation.
